Sophia Women’s Group is an organization for women at Desert Mission United Methodist Church.  We welcome any women who attend worship. We offer a variety of activities ranging from supporting church functions to our own social group meetings.  Sophia also encourages activities that include our members “passions”.

The annual members’ meeting is held during the year and other meetings are scheduled when needed.  Meetings are generally followed by lunch at a member’s home or restaurant to encourage fellowship.

Our scheduled events can be found in the church bulletin, announced during services, on the church website: https://desertmissionumc.org/ and located in the “On The City” website:  https://desertmissionumc.onthecity.org.

Programs and activities vary and reflect the needs of our church and community. Leadership roles are shared according to the particular event. We have officers who conduct meetings and represent Sophia at church council.

Activities that Sophia sponsors and takes part in are:

New Members’ Welcome Dinner

Craft Days (making crosses)

Social Outings: Hikes, Lunches, Museums, Movie & Coffee

Wrapping Christmas gifts for UMOM

Refreshments at concerts

Gardening the church property

Participate in “Dine to Donate” lunches

Fundraisers

Needle Arts

Our name SOPHIA is derived from the Hebrew word “Hokmot” which is the feminine aspect of the wisdom of God.  The above icon on this page is of St. Sophia and her three daughters, Faith, Hope, and Love.  Our goal is to be a work in progress that embodies these qualities in our activities in the church, out in the world and within us.

Please join us at our meetings and/or activities as we continue to grow in wisdom, faith, and love.  For additional information, please contact the Church Office at: 480-595-1814 or email Martha Stock at marthapstock@gmail.com or Dorla Pearman at trunmtn@cox.net.
