A Verse for Each of Your Valentines
Last week, Pastor Michael’s sermon invited us to take a deeper look at the oft-quoted “Love is patient” passage from 1 Corinthians. As Valentine’s Day approaches, it seems like the perfect time to reapproach even more of the Bible verses related to love, and align your valentines with the way you truly feel about the people in your life.
The word “love” appears HUNDREDS of times in the Bible; depending on the translation, the number is somewhere between 300 and 700. One of the reasons the numbers vary so widely is that there are multiple types of love referenced in the Bible, and sometimes the words used to describe them do not translate into the word “love” at all. Check out this article that delves into how romantic love, familial love, and the rest show up in the Bible.
How does this fit into Valentine’s Day? Well, you probably have people in your life for whom you feel these different types of love; why not celebrate them on Valentine’s Day? Why limit your expressions of love to romantic love? Consider making valentines for the different loves in your life (you can use this template if you’d like) and including a verse about love on each one. If you’d like to start with the verses collected here, you will find MANY that require a closer look at their Biblical context! Give them a deeper look, categorize them as needed, and send each person you love a card that is just right for them.
Lots of love to all of you! You can share YOUR Valentine’s Day messages with US on Facebook or Instagram.
