Create a Memory Box
Last week, you began creating your family’s narrative; this week, make a family memory box.
Gather items and images that remind you of key moments from your family’s history. If you live in a multi-generational household, everyone can contribute. You can also contact family members who do not live with you; they can send photos or maybe even small items. The gathering of items and stories is a rich opportunity to connect over your shared history. Use the “Do You Know?” questions as a starting point if you need inspiration. In case you missed the link last week, you can find the list here:https://www.psychologytoday.com/…/the-do-you-know-20-questi…
Place these memories in a box and each time you open it, select an object, and tell its story. Open the box on holidays, or when your child requests it, or when someone is having a problem another family member has faced before, or whenever you feel like it! If you end up telling the same stories over and over, so much the better; you will know your family’s narrative has been effectively passed on when the next generation can tell the stories to you. If you are concerned about any of the details getting lost, you can write them down and keep them in the box as well, and let these memories be a blessing to your family for years to come.
