Feed Your Head
This week’s sermon and scripture reading both featured the story of the feeding of the 5,000. We also packed boxes of donations to feed troops who are far away from home. In that spirit, feed your head as well – learn something new as a family!
Kids are always learning, but sometimes as adults we think we’re done, or that we’re no longer capable of learning new things. That’s simply not true! Learning new things as an adult positively impacts your happiness and self-esteem, and also literally keeps your brain healthy. In addition, learning alongside the kids in your life also sets a great example for them that learning never stops, and that we’re always growing and changing.
So take a class together! Art, cooking, and music are subjects that lend themselves well to multi-generational learners, and there are lots of places in the greater Scottsdale area with offerings in those areas. You can start by checking out these websites:
Family Art Classes: Rachel's Young At Art Studio or Creative Color Art Studios
Family Music Classes: Music Together in Phoenix (for families with younger kids) or School of Rock Scottsdale (all ages, including online classes)
Family Cooking Classes: Sweet Basil Cooking School
Those who are Scottsdale residents can also look at the Scottsdale Parks & Rec Activity Guide. If you have kids age 6 and under, their tot classes are for smaller kids and their adult, while the adult classes include kids over 14, so if you have older kids, you can all enroll together!
If you just can’t make a class work, or the expense is prohibitive, you can still learn as a family. Watch a YouTube how-to video together, or try a new activity on your own – any learning is worthwhile. What matters is that you spend time together while you feed your heads!
