Go Beauty Hunting!

This week we’d like to offer you a mindfulness exercise whose simplicity belies its power. “Beauty Hunting” was created by Jennifer Pastiloff, an author and contributor to the Nov/Dec 2020 issue of Yoga Journal, and it can be done by anyone, anywhere, at any time. Your family can fold it into your daily routine, or use it to shift focus away from the negativity that sometimes overwhelms us!

All you have to do is take note of five beautiful things. That’s it. These five things can be observed over the course of the day, or in the current moment, or can even be connected to a person in your life. Maybe it’s someone you care deeply about, and you periodically remind yourself of their beautiful qualities. Or maybe it’s someone who rubs you the wrong way, and directing your attention towards what makes them beautiful allows you to re-approach them in a more productive and positive way.

Perhaps you’ll notice the beauty in an almost-blooming flower, or a carefully-prepared meal, or a loved one’s smile. The possibilities are endless, as beauty can be seen, heard, smelled, tasted, or touched. And once you begin to look for it, you’ll find it everywhere, even if it’s sometimes hidden deep under the surface. So this week, try hunting for beauty in the things and people around you. You may even find yourself compelled to turn what you find into a prayer – all you have to do is add “thank you” to the end. ❤

Please share some beauty with us on our Facebook page! We’d love to know what makes your heart full.
