Gratitude Scavenger Hunt

Thanksgiving is almost here – let the gratitude begin! Sometimes that’s easier said than done, so gather your family, go outside, and seek out gratitude by doing a scavenger hunt.

To give some shape to your family’s gratitude scavenger hunt, be sure to make a list of things to look for as you go. There is a lovely list on the All Natural Adventures blog that makes a great starting point. It includes items like looking for something in nature that makes a pretty sound, something that is fun to climb on, something that would make a friend happy, and a place that is the perfect resting spot. This might be the perfect list for you, but you can also add your own items or even create your own list from scratch.

You can use your hunt to build up an appetite for your Thanksgiving meal, or to combat the post-meal food coma. Divide into teams if you’ve got a large group, give each group a list, head outside and start looking! You will check off what you find, of course, but we invite you to take pictures of (and with!) each item as well. When you are done, you will have a ready-made photo album of the time you spent together.

When you return home, consider issuing each group a final challenge: look through your Bible and find a verse about gratitude. There are SO MANY to choose from! Bible Study Tools has collected 55 of them, but there are dozens more. Share your verses with each other and delight in your thankfulness for each other, this day, and all of the blessings nature has to offer.

We’d love to share in the discoveries your family documents on your gratitude scavenger hunt! Share them with us in person or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. And have a joyful Thanksgiving!
