Start a Ripple of Kindness!
In Japan in 1997, an international coalition of like-minded organizations formed to “inspire individuals towards greater kindness by connecting nations to create a kinder world.” This coalition, the World Kindness Movement, introduced World Kindness Day on November 13 of the following year. As this year’s World Kindness Day approaches, we wanted to remind you that every act of kindness has a ripple effect that expands much larger than the initial deed. How will you start a ripple this year?
Desert Mission’s very own Shirley B. uses World Kindness Day as a point of connection with her grandchildren. During today’s service, she shared pictures of the box she sent them this year. It contains books about kindness, cards for their teachers, a box where they can write down and collect the kind deeds they’ve done, and friendship bracelets to give to their friends at school. Through World Kindness Day, she inspires her grandchildren to be the best of who God created them to be.
You can connect with the people in your life in a similar way! You might have someone in your life to whom you can send a kindness box. You can fill it with items that will inspire them to start their own ripples of kindness. But whether or not that particular idea is right for you, we hope you will take some kind of action, no matter how small, to create a kinder world. If you need inspiration, check out the ideas collected by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. Start a ripple and watch it grow! And if you’d like to share your acts of kindness with us, we’d love for you to connect with us on Facebook or Instagram.
