A Rainbow of Faith
There is lots of meaning attached to the colors we see in the church – and in the world. From the liturgical colors that change with the season to the presence of rainbow imagery throughout the Bible, colors are everywhere! There are also colors associated with the different aspects of faith, which we invite your family to explore this week.
While the meaning of the colors can vary, artist Lula Adams recorded her interpretation in the poem “Faith Colors,” which captures the essence of each color in simple, accessible language. You can read it here.
After you’ve read the poem (or while you read it!), activate your connection to the poem through a similarly simple, accessible craft project called Rainbow Coasters (here's a tutorial). All you’ll need is craft sticks and glue (school glue is fine; hot glue is even better). You can find rainbow colored craft sticks at many stores, but you can also use plain ones and color them using markers or paint. And if you need a supply of plain craft sticks, we would be happy to give you some – the Sunday School classroom has LOTS of them!
As you prepare the sticks of each color, read aloud the part of poem that goes with that color, then glue them in place. If your family works together, you can make a complete set of coasters to place throughout your home. And every time you use one of them, it will remind you that your faith is a colorful, vibrant thing that changes as you change – and no matter what color it is, it is there to uplift you, just like your coaster uplifts your drinks!
