Let’s Celebrate!
Today we honored Desert Mission’s graduates, whether they finished high school, college, or postgraduate work. It was an absolute joy to celebrate their achievements – and a great reminder that, as we emerge from what has been a very stressful and isolating time for many of us, it’s so important to find things to celebrate. So this week, keep the celebration going!
Begin by identifying something to celebrate. It might be a graduation within your own family, or a birthday, or a really beautiful tree, or a Tuesday! The options are endless. Perhaps your family can even brainstorm some ideas, and vote on which one you’d like to recognize with your celebration.
Once you’ve decided WHAT to celebrate, you can get down to HOW. Buy decorations if you’d like, or make your own! You can create a banner using construction paper and ribbon or string. Either use the ribbon to hang a single piece of paper that announces the occasion you’re celebrating, or connect several smaller pieces and write one letter on each, i.e. T-U-E-S-D-A-Y-! Add some colorful paper garlands, which are amazingly simple to make. You can even create your own origami balloons to add to the festivities! They are not as complicated as you’d think, and it’s pretty magical to watch them go from 2D to 3D as you blow them up. Pro tip: your balloons will be smaller than you expect them to be, so start with larger paper than you normally would for other origami projects.
Once you’ve decorated, you can choose some party foods, and maybe even put together a party playlist. Then get down to celebrating whatever particular blessing your family has chosen to recognize. Let your heart fill with joy, and remember that no occasion is too minor to celebrate!
