Sunday School will officially resume on October 3, and we will be kicking off new weekly programming for older youth as well! We are so excited to welcome back our amazing group of young people, as well as the team of wonderful volunteers who make it all possible. We would also like to welcome more enthusiastic, caring folks into our ranks! Here is everything you need to know to serve in Desert Mission’s youth programs:
Sunday School takes place during the 10:00 service, and serves kids up to age 12. We follow the Godly Play curriculum, a Montessori-based program that emphasizes creativity and wonder. You’d be amazed at how engaged and insightful our kids are!
Youth Group takes place during the early service (8:30 to 9:45), and serves kids from age 12 through high school. The objective of this exciting new program is to help young people navigate their way through the world as Christians, while providing them with adult mentors they can trust to guide them. There will also be monthly special events for this group – we held two over the summer, and they were not only meaningful but also incredibly fun!
The safety of our kids is paramount; as such, each group requires two adults be present at all times. In Sunday School, Miss Jen is one of the adults; as a volunteer, you will provide support during the story, wondering, and “work time” (creative response time) that follows. Youth Group is being spearheaded by Debbie Oshman and Jason & Rhonda Norton; your presence, enthusiasm, and support will be a great addition to their leadership!
All volunteers must be background checked (we can guide your through this process if you need help), and Covid safety measures will include masking, distancing as much as possible, and outdoor instruction when the weather permits! These measures will adapt as CDC guidance changes.
If your interest has been piqued, we invite you to fill out the “We’re All In This Together” form available in our weekly bulletin, newsletter, and right here on our website. Check the box for “Sunday School Helper” and indicate in the “extra details” section whether your heart is pulling you towards the Sunday School, Youth Group, or both!
