Community Connection
“Family Time” is now Community Connection! While the name has changed, the focus has not: these activities, offered by our Children’s Education Director, are designed to help families remain connected to their faith, community and each other.
Each week, a new activity is introduced during Sunday worship and then posted below. Also, don’t forget to follow Community Connection on Facebook and Instagram.
Make Time for Self-Care
Whatever your opinion on Olympic gymnast Simone Biles choosing to withdraw from the competition, her decision opened the door for some extremely important conversations about prioritizing self-care. We’d like to continue that conversation right here, by encouraging your entire family to re-frame your perspective on self-care and to devote some time to it in the coming week.
Rainy Day Reading
Arizona has been blessed with several consecutive days of rainy weather, and aside from the hardships of fallen trees and flooded streets, it has been a welcome change for many of us. Such days are also a wonderful invitation to immerse yourself in an activity far too few of us are able to make time for on a regular basis: reading.
DIY Olympics!
The long-awaited Tokyo Olympics start on Friday, and though they might seem very far-removed from most of our athletic abilities, your family can participate in its own way: by making up your own sport, and holding your own family competition! It’s easier than you’d think, especially because there’s no wrong way to invent something nobody’s ever played before.
Make Every Day a “Holiday!”
If you’ve never explored the website ‘National Today,’ you are missing out on literally hundreds of “holidays.” We’re using quotes because some of them can only be considered holidays in the very broadest possible sense of the word, but this week, make it your family’s intention to tip your cap to some lesser-known holidays, and have some fun doing it!
Independence Day Prayers
It’s Independence Day, a day commemorated with barbecues, fireworks, and togetherness. As with many holidays, most of us move through the day with the understanding that we are celebrating freedom and independence, but many of us – including the young people in our lives – may not be aware of just what this day means, and where these traditions came from. So today, take the opportunity to explore why this day is so special.
