Community Connection
“Family Time” is now Community Connection! While the name has changed, the focus has not: these activities, offered by our Children’s Education Director, are designed to help families remain connected to their faith, community and each other.
Each week, a new activity is introduced during Sunday worship and then posted below. Also, don’t forget to follow Community Connection on Facebook and Instagram.
DIY Olympics!
The long-awaited Tokyo Olympics start on Friday, and though they might seem very far-removed from most of our athletic abilities, your family can participate in its own way: by making up your own sport, and holding your own family competition! It’s easier than you’d think, especially because there’s no wrong way to invent something nobody’s ever played before.
Make Every Day a “Holiday!”
If you’ve never explored the website ‘National Today,’ you are missing out on literally hundreds of “holidays.” We’re using quotes because some of them can only be considered holidays in the very broadest possible sense of the word, but this week, make it your family’s intention to tip your cap to some lesser-known holidays, and have some fun doing it!
Independence Day Prayers
It’s Independence Day, a day commemorated with barbecues, fireworks, and togetherness. As with many holidays, most of us move through the day with the understanding that we are celebrating freedom and independence, but many of us – including the young people in our lives – may not be aware of just what this day means, and where these traditions came from. So today, take the opportunity to explore why this day is so special.
Make a Praise Collage!
There’s just something fun about making collages – maybe it’s being given permission to cut up magazines, maybe it’s the freedom to include anything you want in it, or maybe it’s the fact that making it kind of messy makes it better. Regardless of which of these reasons appeals to you, this week, we invite you to gather your family, your old magazines, and some glue and make Praise Collages!
Make it a Father’s Day to Remember
Father’s Day as we know it has its origins in one woman wondering, during a Mother’s Day church service, “why don’t we honor fathers too?” So today, a month after we celebrated the influential women in our lives, we wanted to share some of the history of this day with you, and maybe prompt you to begin some new traditions to honor the men who have made you who you are today.
